Summary

Harper is anxiously awaiting placement into a top oral surgery residency program when she crashes (literally) into Dan。 Harper would rather endure a Novocaine-free root canal than face any distractions, even one this adorable。

A first-year dental student with a family legacy to contend with, Dan doesn’t have the same passion for pulling teeth that Harper does。 Though he finds himself falling for her, he is willing to play by Harper’s rules。

So with the greatest of intentions and the poorest of follow-throughs, the two set out to be “just friends。” But as they get to know each other better, Harper fears that trading fillings for feelings may make her lose control and can't risk her carefully ordered life coming undone, no matter how drool-worthy Dan is。

Blood, gore, and extra-long roots? No problem。 The idea of falling in love? Torture。

I really wanted to like this book, but I just felt they didn’t have any chemistry and I was a little bore and underwhelmed。 Disappointing。

Stop it right now。 This book was so cute。 Harper and Dan’s relationship is adorable…I want what they have。 On top of being a laugh out loud romcom, this book also touched on some fairly sensitive topics。 There was a nice authors note/warning at the beginning of the book which I appreciated。 Thank you St。 Martins Press for sending me a copy :)

This was a super sweet romance!Dan was amazing, and Hannah was so relatable。 Great tension, on point banter, cute dates, mental health rep, friends to lovers, slow burn, and steamy! I am sold。 The only thing that bothered me at times was Hannah BUT I totally understand where she was coming from, and I’m very similar, which is exactly why I was frustrated tbh😂I’ll be very excited to see what Mazey Eddings does next!*special thanks to St Martin’s Griffin and netgalley got a copy to review

A BRUSH WITH LOVE is a (friends to lovers?) romance with great anxiety representation。Main character Harper steals the show。 She's long had anxiety and feels like she needs to constantly achieve。 She doesn't feel like she can let her guard down。 She definitely doesn't think making time for a relationship -- especially when she'll be leaving town in 5 months for residency -- is a good idea。And yet。。。 she and fellow student Dan just can't stay apart。While I thought Harper was an amazing character, A BRUSH WITH LOVE is a (friends to lovers?) romance with great anxiety representation。Main character Harper steals the show。 She's long had anxiety and feels like she needs to constantly achieve。 She doesn't feel like she can let her guard down。 She definitely doesn't think making time for a relationship -- especially when she'll be leaving town in 5 months for residency -- is a good idea。And yet。。。 she and fellow student Dan just can't stay apart。While I thought Harper was an amazing character, I don't think I really "got" Dan。 I think maybe that's because he often was playing off other people (whether his family or Harper) so I'm not sure his true personality was on the page。 He's hot and a bad student and that might be all I really know about him? That made it hard for me to root for their relationship。 If all he's bringing to the table is a safe place for her to be vulnerable, I don't know, there are psychologists and friends and support groups for that? I wanted more for her than just someone she felt she could breathe around。 It feels strange to say, but I actually wish there were more dental puns, stories, etc。 At times this felt like a more generic "higher education" story -- as if the characters could have been at any school。 The narrator for Harper's perspective did a good job; I especially liked how she voiced parts where Harper was written to be upset。 I did not care for how the narrator for Dan's perspective delivered Harper's lines。 He made his voice higher and maybe breathier, which almost made her sound like a teenager。 Harper was such a self-possessed character from her perspective, then all of a sudden it was practically like she was a manic pixie dream girl to Dan。 As ever, YMMV -- and I'm afraid this may sound more critical than I want it to。 Three stars, I liked it! But wanted to put my finger on why I didn't really like it/love it。Thank you to Macmillan Audio for a free ALC of this title for review。 。。。more

As someone with GAD, this was difficult to get through。 I hated to see myself through her because I wondered if I ever reacted to things the way she did and if I should have had that reaction。 But even still, it was a great read。 Real review to come。

The book took me a little over 2 hours and 30 minutes to get through and I read it all in one sitting because it was just so addicting! I love that the book was a residency romance and that the love interest was a nervous, tongue-twisted man while the main MC was a smart, brainiac girl who had a lot of past trauma she needed to deal with。 The book is told in a duel POV narrative for the most part, but a lot of the chapters are from Harper’s POV, and the book is an insta-love romance。 The book also had really good moments where it showed feminism and consent。 The book had great character development and good worldbuilding。 The book had great pacing and the story was well plotted。 I really enjoyed reading it and I already want to reread it。The only issue I had with the book is that there was a bit of confusion with where Harper was towards the end of the book。 She mentions moving, but she’s still at the residency school, but then she’s moved。 It’s a little bit confusing but doesn’t affect the main story overall。Verdict: It’s so good! Highly recommend! 。。。more

I have very mixed feelings about this book。 I really enjoyed most parts and even the parts I didn't enjoy were well done。 There were just some pieces that made it hard for me to fully love this book how I wanted to。First the good stuff:I loved Dan's character。 As a numbers person, I identified with his love of patterns and problem solving and I really enjoyed how he talked about his passion。 His troubled family dynamic felt real to me, not at all forced, and his reactions to his family felt hone I have very mixed feelings about this book。 I really enjoyed most parts and even the parts I didn't enjoy were well done。 There were just some pieces that made it hard for me to fully love this book how I wanted to。First the good stuff:I loved Dan's character。 As a numbers person, I identified with his love of patterns and problem solving and I really enjoyed how he talked about his passion。 His troubled family dynamic felt real to me, not at all forced, and his reactions to his family felt honest。I loved Harper's friends。 They were such a lovely and supportive group of women。 I loved how unapologetically true to themselves they all were。I liked how honest Harper's struggle with her mental health was。 It is not often I read a book that shows the reality of denying a mental illness and trying to force oneself to appear "normal"。 It was not always easy to read, not by a long shot。 But getting to go along with Harper on the journey from denial and self-sabotage to seeking the help she needs was very important。I appreciated that both Dan and Harper ended up getting therapy for themselves。 Not for a relationship or for another person, but to deal with their own shit for their own quality of life。Where I struggled:While I think Harper's journey was super important, it was hard to watch her be so toxic to Dan through their relationship。 Multiple times I wanted him to stop being so nice to her and stand up for himself。 He did not deserve to be treated as badly as she treated him while she was self-sabotaging。 She was constantly hot and cold with him and took no accountability for her actions。 I felt like he deserved a lot better。It also bothered me that she hadn't told her three best friends of multiple years about her anxiety/claustrophobia。 All three of her friends never seemed afraid to be honest with her, but she refused to do the same, instead lashing out at them when she felt overwhelmed by a completely avoidable trigger。Overall, the good outweighed the bad, but I feel like I would have enjoyed this book more if the focus had been on her journey instead of the romance between her and Dan。Thank you to Netgalley and St Martins Press for the ARC! 。。。more

Unfortunately, I had to DNF at 40% - the plot sounded promising and had a very unique setting (dentistry school) with a focus on mental health。 However, the execution I found to be painfully boring and unbelievable insta-love chemistry between the main characters。Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review。

This RomCom just worked- representation, open discussion about mental health, so much witty banter, and intense chemistry! Harper is the smart heroine we deserve。 Her struggles with anxiety felt authentic but was also handled with care。 And Dan? So adorable。 Adding him to my list of forever book boyfriends。 Like most RomComs, it was the cast of friends that had me laughing from start to finish! I definitely recommend A Brush With Love!

I am such a fan of dual POV and even better via audio when they have two narrators。 The flow of the book via audio made it a super quick listen。 Also it's always a bonus when a book takes place in Philadelphia。One thing I loved is that they both knew they were into each other right away。 It may have taken a bit for things to get hot and heavy but they always known there was something there。 And yes there is steam 🔥🔥 There was such a mix of light and funny moments to serious discussions so please check the content warnings on this prior to reading。

Bravo to Mazey on your debut!! 。。。more
